Apple in Dressing Gown (Alma Pongyolaban)

Apple in Dressing Gown (Alma Pongyolaban)

This is a sweet Sunday afternoon dessert, that also goes well after a hearty soup on a weekday.

My grandmother (Nora Mama) used to make this during the time i spent with her in her weekend house at Lake Balaton. She used the apples grown in her garden. Unforgettable times those were.

So I thought I remake this sweet apple coated in pancake butter.

Ingredients:

250g Plain Flour

Pinch of Salt

½ teaspoon Baking Powder

¼ teaspoon Bi Carb Soda

3 Large Whole Eggs

250ml Milk (full cream)

5-6 Large Apples

Cinnamon Sugar

Oil for cooking

The Making:

Mix all ingredients in a bowl.

Peal and grate fine one of the apples, add half a tablespoon of sugar and some lemon juice to it.

Squeeze out the water and add it to the batter.

Cork, peal and slice the remaining apples into half to one centimetre thickness.

Heat generous amount of oil in the pan, and dip the sliced apples into the batter one by one.

You can use a wooden skewer to pick the apple slices out of the batter and place them into the hot oil.

Cook both sides evenly, make sure the oil does not get too hot so they burn.

When you take them out of the oil, put them into the cinnamon sugar mixture, and coat both sides.

Place them on a tray covered with paper towel.

Try not to eat too much!
